CBI arrests IAS officer Rajiv Ranjan, ex-DM Rafiqui in J-K arms licensing case

New Delhi, March 1

The CBI has arrested two former district magistrates of Kupwara—Rajiv Ranjan, an IAS officer, and Itrit Hussain Rafiqui—in connection with issuance of large number of arms licences on the basis of forged documents, officials said on Sunday.

During the CBI investigation, the alleged role of Ranjan and Rafiqui who had held the position of district magistrate of Kupwara from 2015 to 2016 and 2013 to 2015, respectively, had surfaced, they said.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.
