The CBI on Friday conducted searches at 30 locations following registration of an FIR against 33 persons in connection with alleged irregularities in the selection of police Sub-Inspectors by the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB).

According to the CBI, searches were conducted at 28 locations in Jammu and one each in Srinagar and Bengaluru after the registration of an FIR against JKSSB member Narayan Dutt and 32 others, including middlemen and candidates. In its FIR, the CBI also named Karnail Singh, a medical officer posted in Jammu; Avinash Gupta, the owner of a coaching centre in Akhnoor; and a Bengaluru-based firm. Last month, the Jammu and Kashmir administration cancelled the police Sub-Inspector recruitment following allegations of irregularities and recommended a CBI probe into the selection process.

The alleged irregularities surfaced after significant candidates of a coaching institute in Jammu made it to the merit list. The agency that conducted the online examination has also been named in the CBI’s FIR.

Meanwhile, LG Manoj Sinha had then tweeted saying: “JKP SI recruitment has been cancelled and a CBI probe has been recommended into the selection process. Culprits will be brought to justice soon. It’s a first big step towards securing future of our youth and the government will soon decide the future course of action for fresh recruitment.”
