Panic gripped the Sangoor area in Udhampur district on Monday when there were reports of chlorine gas leak at a filtration plant.

The incident took place at the Military Engineering Services (MES) filtration plant in the area. The leak occurred near Karan Nagar locality where a school is also located.

The pungent smell of chlorine gas spread across the area causing unease among residents. However, officials confirmed that no injuries or illnesses were reported as a result of the leak.

Fire and Emergency Services, J&K State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and police responded swiftly to the incident and immediately began evacuation procedures.

School children and local residents were moved to a safe distance from the leak site. Additionally, police restricted entry and exit points on roads approaching the affected area. The leak was contained after sustained efforts, an official informed. He said that the cause of the incident is still under investigation.
