A spokesperson termed it a “significant step toward enhancing direct communication with the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”

Chief Minister Abdullah said, this office has been established to provide a “dedicated platform for addressing public grievances and for building a healthy relationship between the government and citizens.”

On the first day, as many as 15 delegations met the Chief Minister, each representing various social, cultural and professional groups.

The spokesperson said issues discussed and brought to the notice of the CM centered around economic challenges, cultural preservation, employment concerns and sectoral development.

“Unique cultural heritage preservation also featured prominently in the discussions, with delegations advocating for initiatives to promote Jammu and Kashmir’s rich heritage, preserve local languages, and implement social welfare programs,” the spokesperson said.

The Chief Minister heard the concerns and emphasised the need for a cohesive approach to protect the region’s unique identity, said officials. The Jammu and Kashmir Government this week gave its nod to establish ‘Chief Minister’s Public Services and Outreach Office’ under the Chief Minister’s Secretariat for ensuring grievance redressal and timely public service delivery through citizen engagement.

The office will initially comprise two wings at the central level, each headed by an officer of the rank of Special Secretary/Additional Secretary to the government, said an order issued by the government.
