The Meteorological Centre in Srinagar issued an advisory stating that the cold wave in Jammu and Kashmir would persist, urging travellers to be cautious of icy conditions on roads.

The weather department predicted a drop of 2-3°C in minimum temperatures from December 24 to 26, with the cold wave continuing until December 26.

“In view of sub-freezing temperatures and icy conditions over roads in important higher reaches, tourists/travellers are advised to follow administrative advisories,” the advisory stated.

An intense cold wave gripped J&K on Monday, with higher reaches receiving snowfall, while the plains in Jammu experienced rain. Sub-zero temperatures caused water pipes in the Valley to freeze and a thin layer of ice formed on several water bodies.

Srinagar recorded a low of minus 3.6°C on Sunday night, rising by nearly four degrees from the previous night. Pahalgam registered a minimum temperature of minus 5°C, which remained almost unchanged from the previous night.
