Come Oct 2, Railways to resume eight long-distance trains from Jammu
Heavy rainfall had severely affected rail services in the division, with tracks and bridges bearing the brunt of the floods
The Northern Railway on Monday ordered the resumption of eight long-distance trains from Jammu station starting October 2, after ensuring the safety and continuity of tracks damaged by heavy rains and floods in August this year.
Heavy rainfall had severely affected rail services in the division, with tracks and bridges bearing the brunt of the floods.
An official spokesperson said “Divisional Railway Manager, Jammu, Vivek Kumar, and other officials are periodically reviewing various sections and ensuring train safety. In this regard, some trains are being re-operated in Jammu Division in fourth phase”.
Train number 12470 (Jammu Tawi - Kanpur) will resume operation from October 2, train number 14692 (Jammu Tawi - Barauni) and train number 15654 (Jammu Tawi - Guwahati) will resume operation from October 3. Train number 12588 (Jammu Tawi - Gorakhpur) will restart from October 4 and train number 14606 (Jammu Tawi - Yoga Nagari Rishikesh) will resume operation from October 5. Train 15098 (Jammu Tawi-Bhagalpur) will restart from October 7 while train number 22318 (Jammu - Sealdah) and train number 15652 (Jammu Tawi-Guwahati) will resume operation from October 8.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal said the trains are being reinstated only after ensuring track safety and continuity. “Train operations in the division are gradually being normalised as technical work on tracks and bridges is completed,” he said, advising passengers to check schedules on the Northern Railway website or helpline numbers.
Earlier, the railways restored train services in phases, including local services on Katra-Jammu, Katra-Budgam, Katra-Banihal, and Katra-Sangaldan destinations besides Jammu and other outside destinations, including running of freight trains in September.
