The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) on Saturday resumed district-wise chain hunger strikes under the ‘Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq’ programme to reiterate the party’s demand for restoration of statehood to J&K.
A statement said that the District Congress Committee Baramulla observed a hunger strike at the Srinagar party headquarters and reiterated its call for statehood restoration.
J&K Pradesh Congress Committee president Tariq Hameed Karra, along with legislators and senior Congress leaders, including former minister Taj Mohi Ud Din, joined the hunger strike and vowed to continue the struggle until the Centre restores the dignity and honour of the erstwhile princely state of J&K.
Karra said, “Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq is the Congress Party’s indigenous movement; it shall continue until the Centre restores the dignity and honour of the erstwhile princely State of J&K.”
He reiterated the party’s demand and urged the Centre to respect the aspirations of the people of J&K. “People are feeling neglected in the absence of statehood, as their rights have been denied and compromised. We will not rest until statehood is restored,” he said.
