Hitting out at the BJP-led Central government over the issue of restoration of statehood, J&K Pradesh Congress Committee president Tariq Hameed Karra has said that Centre has no intention to fulfil the commitments in this connection and the people will have to intensify the struggle for achieving their goal of securing their identity and dignity.
Karra said this while addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in Jammu on the eve of launching a 15-day mass contact campaign in the province from Udhampur on Thursday. JKPCC chief said Congress will reach out to the people to intensify the movement for statehood and send a message to the Centre to fulfil the commitment and gear up people for a bigger struggle for the purpose.
“The campaign shall also focus on the nation-wide party campaign, ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim and Jai Samvidhan’ to safeguard the constitution, democracy and the independence of institutions,” he said.
The mass contact campaign is also aimed at listening to the problems faced by a cross-section of the society and to highlight those and discuss the issues in the upcoming Assembly session next month, he said.
“Despite Assembly election and coming into power of an elected government, the people are facing hardships for day-to-day issues, due to the dual control system and lack of power to the UT government,” he said.
