As part of a nationwide call from the All India Congress Committee, hundreds of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress workers participated in a padayatra under the leadership of JKPCC President Tariq Hameed Karra. He was joined by AICC General Secretary G.A. Mir and other senior leaders.

The workers raised strong slogans and carried placards, protesting against the central government, particularly Home Minister Amit Shah, over his “derogatory remarks in Parliament against Dr Baba Sahib Ambedkar.”

Addressing the workers at the statue of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, Karra reminded the crowd of the role played by RSS and its affiliates during India’s independence struggle. He said, “Those who are parroting about their nationalism today are the same people who collaborated with the British to undermine the independence struggle and acted as informers, facilitating British crackdowns on the leadership of the Indian National Congress.”

Karra criticised those attempting to create a new narrative of nationalism based on hate, division and religious, caste, and creed-based politics. He said, “This kind of politics is the worst disservice to the nation.”

He added, “To safeguard the legacy of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar and his values, the ‘Samvidhan Bachao Rashtriya Padayatra’ held today will connect villages and towns across Jammu and Kashmir with a powerful message of unity and social justice.” Karra reiterated the Congress demand for the dismissal of Amit Shah for his remarks.

In his address, GA Mir condemned Shah’s words, stating that the Home Minister’s insults toward the father of the Indian Constitution were not just an offense to a particular section of society but to the entire nation.
