Cops thwart Congress' march to Raj Bhavan
The police on Wednesday prevented Congress workers from marching to the Raj Bhavan in Srinagar and Jammu as part of a nationwide demonstration to highlight several issues, including BJP’s policy to “defend” Gautam Adani, its “utter failure” to maintain peace in Manipur, and restoration of statehooh to J&K.
In Jammu, hundreds of Congress workers including former ministers, legislators and senior leaders, led by party’s J&K chief Tariq Hameed Karra, gathered at the party headquarters at Shaheedi Chowk for the march to Raj Bhavan.
However, a strong contingent of police stopped the protestors at Residency Road from proceeding forward. Later, Karra advised the Congress workers to agree to the request of the police authorities and to hold a peaceful sit-in on the Residency Road.
The protesters raised slogans against Home Minister Amit Shah for his alleged remarks on Dr BR Ambedkar and demanded his apology.
