Covid: Chushot village containment notified

The Leh district administration in the Ladakh Union Territory has contained Chuchot village, the epicentre of the outbreak of Covid 19 in the district, a standard operating procedure set by the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry to stop the transmission, morbidity and mortality by the disease.

The Deputy Commissioner, Leh, has also ordered to close all work places within the containment zone till further orders.

With report of two cases of coronavirus infections with history of visit to Iran from the Chuchot village in Leh, the district authorities have issued a notification regarding cluster containment for active surveillance.

Simultaneously, a buffer zone near the containment zone is being created to review the cases reported in the last 14 days and to identify any missing cases of Covid-19 in the community.

Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Sachin Kumar, has said he visited the village on Monday and had sought the cooperation of the community leaders with regard to the decision of the administration.

He further said Aaha, Anganwadi and ANM workers had started house-to-house surveillance in the containment zone and a control room had been set up where reports were being collected from the Block Medical Officer.

A four-member committee, led by Tehsildar, Leh, had been formed to arrange the supplies of essential commodities within the containment zone.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the UT Ladakh, Rigzin Sampheal, has said that 131 pilgrims from Iran had reached Ladakh, out of whom 100 were from Kargil district and 31 from Leh district and all of them were under surveillance.

He also said that 28 samples of suspects, including the attendants of patients had been sent to Delhi. Out of these, two had tested positive, while nine had tested negative. The reports of the remaining 17 cases were awaited.
