Fast-tracking the process of redrawing the electoral constituencies in Jammu & Kashmir, the Delimitation Commission, headed by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai (retd), will visit the Union Territory for four days beginning July 6.
During the stay there, the panel would interact with local political leaders, civil society representatives and administrative officials to gather “first-hand” information and views on the mega exercise, the commission said in an official release.
The decision on the panel’s visit to J&K was taken after an internal meeting of the commission chaired by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai (retd), where Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sushil Chandra was also present as its member. This was the first meeting of the commission after PM Narendra Modi held a meeting with 14 leaders of the mainstream J&K political parties on June 24, where they were impressed upon the need to fast-track the constituency-redrawing exercise.
