Azaans (call to prayer) were heard from the loudspeakers of minarets on the beginning day of the fasting month of Ramzan on Saturday, but the mosques wore a deserted look.

No congregations were held in the mosques and the usual hustle and bustle associated with Ramzan was missing on a day when 40 fresh Covid-19 positive cases were reported from the Valley.
Residents, who prayed and ended fasts at homes, said they had not witnessed such a low-key beginning to the fasting month that would otherwise buzz with festivities.
