Srinagar, April 22
Ahead of the beginning of Ramadan, the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCC&I) today urged the government to designate more stores for home deliveries of essentials in the city.
“For the supply of essential commodities, only 23 stores have been designated for home delivery with only one delivery boy allowed per store. This is too little a number to cater to the huge volumes required to be supplied. The stores have also not been provided any protective gear, which can pose a threat in the prevailing situation,” the KCC&I statement said.
Stating that the matter had been brought to the attention of senior officials in a recent meeting, the statement said: “Maximum number of grocery stores needs to be opened as is being done in other parts of the country. There is also a problem of stockpiling of the existing stocks, which can get damaged if not moved on time.”
The KCC&I said around 75,000 MTS of apples was waiting to be transported out of the Valley. It underscored the need of having a dedicated corridor for the past export of apples, which are presently lying in cold storage.
