Discussion on education policy held at Leh

Deputy Chairman of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, Tsering Angchuk convened to discuss the education policy and the implementation of foundational literacy and competency-based learning.

The meeting was attended by Executive Councillor Stanzin Chosphel, other councillors of the hill council, officials of Education Department among others.

During the meeting, officials apprised the Deputy Chairman of various aspects of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, focusing on foundational literacy, concept-based learning and the importance of making education more engaging through hands-on and joyful learning methods. A presentation was made by Deputy Secretary, Culture, highlighting the idea of “The village teaches, the village learns,” which envisions redefining the village as a centre of education through community involvement and traditional wisdom.

The discussion also touched upon the importance of competency-based learning, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Angchuk emphasised that education is a powerful tool for transformation and stressed the need for reforms, workshops and a structured roadmap to improve the system. He further highlighted the significance of making education locally relevant while integrating traditional knowledge with modern learning methods. He announced that a pilot project would be implemented soon.

It was agreed that a systematic approach would be taken to implement the discussed initiatives while ensuring that the existing education framework remains undisturbed. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to transforming education, ultimately empowering students and communities.
