Srinagar, June 2
Two persons died due to Covid-19 and 117 tested positive for coronavirus, among them a leading pulmonologist in Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday, taking the total caseload in J&K to 2,718.
A 27-year-old man, who was suffering from bilateral pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome, from north Kashmir’s Kupwara and an 80-year-old woman from Baramulla district died on Monday.
“The swab samples of both were taken after their death on Monday and tested positive today,” a health official said.
So far, 33 persons have died due to Covid-19 in J&K; 29 in Kashmir and four in Jammu.
“In the UT of J&K, 117 new positive cases have been reported since our last update yesterday; 40 from Jammu and 77 from Kashmir. Also, two Covid-19 deaths have been reported from Kashmir,” read the media bulletin on novel coronavirus.
Seven coronavirus patients have recovered and have been discharged from various hospitals of J&K.
The official bulletin said that out of 155 positive cases, 15 were reported from Srinagar, Pulwama 14, Jammu 13, Kulgam 11, Kupwara 10, Poonch and Ramban nine each, Budgam eight, Baramulla and Shopian seven each, Bandipora five, Rajouri three, Kathua and Udhampur two each, Samba and Doda one each.
Among the today’s infected persons are 13 pregnant women and a leading pulmonologist and head of the pulmonology department of Srinagar’s Chest Disease Hospital who was at the forefront in the fight against Covid-19.
A majority of the coronavirus cases have been reported from Kashmir, 2,076. Jammu has the figure of 642.
