Jammu, September 22

In a fresh case of the aerial dropping of arms and ammunition through drones across the border, J&K Police and Army on Tuesday recovered drone dropped arms from Sohal Khad in Akhnoor sub-division of Jammu district.

According to official sources, a team of J&K Police and Army, on the basis of inputs regarding the aerial dropping of arms, launched an operation in the border area Sohal and recovered arms and ammunition containing two AK-47 assault Rifles, three AK magazines, 90 rounds and a Pistol.

“After dropping arms and ammunition, the drone has probably returned to the other side of the border. The investigation in this regard is in progress,” a police official said.

Senior police officers would brief the media regarding recovery of arms and ammunition late Monday evening.

There has been a sudden rise in incidents of using drones for dropping arms, ammunition and narcotics to this side of the border from the Pakistan side. Security agencies have already flagged their concern who described ‘aerial dropping of arms’ a bit of challenge, especially in hilly terrains.

On September 19, security agencies had arrested three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants from border Rajouri district and recovered huge quantity of arms and ammunition from their possession. The arms and ammunition were dropped by a Pakistan-drone across the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district.

On June 20, the BSF had shot down an arms-laden Pakistan drone in Rathua village of Hiranagar sector in Kathua district.
