Drug peddlers’ properties worth Rs 75 lakh attached

Jammu and Kashmir Police said on Friday that as part of its ongoing crackdown against drug trafficking, police in Anantnag district have attached properties worth Rs 75 lakh belonging to two notorious drug peddlers under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

A spokesperson said acting under the NDPS Act, police attached a cement-concrete plinth along with land belonging to Tariq Ahmad Lone, a resident of Satkipora. The property is valued at approximately Rs 60 lakh.

The police said it was identified as illegally acquired through drug trafficking.

In a separate action, Bijbehara police station attached commercial shops belonging to Gulzar Ahmad Rather, a resident of Waghama. The attachment was made in connection with a case of the NDPS Act, registered at Bijbehara police station. The property, valued at Rs 15 lakh, was confirmed as proceeds of drug-related activities.

The police said these stringent actions highlight “Anantnag police’s firm resolve to eliminate drug menace and dismantle the financial networks supporting illicit drug trade”.

“The public is urged to cooperate with law-enforcement agencies by reporting any drug-related activities, ensuring a safer and drug-free society,” they said.

Meanwhile, police in nearby Kulgam district said they have booked a notorious drug peddler under Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT NDPS) after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority.

The drug peddler, according to the police, has been identified as Ghulam Nabi Wagay, a resident of Gundipora, Qazigund. The police said he has been lodged in Udhampur district jail.
