Edu Dept committee to inspect 207 private unaided colleges

The higher education department has constituted a committee for inspection of private unaided colleges in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

The committee has been entrusted with the task of conducting an inspection of colleges, established during the last five years, which have applied for renewal of permission.

Sources said the committee has been constituted to monitor the academic performance of over 200 private unaided colleges in the Jammu and Kashmir divisions. They said in the Jammu division, the committee comprised the principal, Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, principal, Government MAM College, and a subject expert. They will inspect the private colleges in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts.

For the private unaided colleges in Rajouri and Poonch districts, the panel includes the principals of Government Degree College (GDC), Rajouri, Government Degree College, Poonch, and a subject expert.

The committee comprising the principals of the GDC, Doda, and the GDC, Reasi, and one subject expert will inspect the private unaided colleges in Udhampur, Doda, Reasi, Ramban and Kishtwar districts.

For the inspections of private engineering colleges, the committee comprises the principal, Government College of Engineering and Technology (GCET), Nodal Officer, Mathematical Institute, Sub-Office, Jammu, and two subject experts (head of department) from the GCET.

In Kashmir, the private unaided colleges in Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal districts will be inspected by the committee comprising the principals of Women College, MA Road, Srinagar, GDC, Bemina, and a subject expert.

Similarly, the private colleges in Baramulla, Bandipora and Kupwara will be inspected by a committee consisting of the principals of the GDC, Sopore, GDC, Pattan, and one subject expert.

The private colleges in districts Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam will be inspected by a panel comprising the principals of the GDC, Pulwama, GDC, Kulgam, and one subject expert.

The engineering colleges will be inspected by the principal, GCET, Safapora, in charge Director, Jammu and Kashmir Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Srinagar, and two subject experts (head of department) from the National Institute of Technology, Srinagar.

  • There are around 107 private unaided colleges in the Jammu division, including 75 BEd colleges, 22 degree colleges offering courses in arts, sciences, MBA, BBA, MCA, BCA, six law colleges and four engineering colleges. In the Kashmir division, the strength of private unaided colleges is around 100
