Literati fest concludes at JU

An Inter-Collegiate/Departmental Literati Fest organised by the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu (JU), concluded on Wednesday. Students from different affiliated colleges and university departments participated in various competitions such as essay writing, short story writing, poetry recitation, flower arrangement and sketching. Prof Manoj K Dhar, JU Vice-Chancellor was the chief guest at the valedictory function. The special feature of the programme was ‘Mitti di Khushboo’ in which folk music and dances of Jammu were presented by Asha Kesar and group and Om Parkash and Party.

JU beats Mumbai University in cricket

Jammu University team won its first match by beating Mumbai University by 4 wickets in the 17th All-India Vice Chancellor’s T-20 Cricket Tournament 2019 being organised by Shivaji University, Kohlapur (Maharashtra). Batting first, Mumbai University scored 124 runs in 20 overs for the loss of nine wickets. In reply, Jammu university team achieved the target in 18.3 overs losing 6 wickets in the process.

Annual day at Springdales School

Springdales School, Barnai, celebrated its seventh annual day at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium. Chander Mohan Gupta, Mayor of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), was the chief guest on the occasion. Around 50 students from Balgraan School along with their teachers were invited to the function. After lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries, Shashi Kiran Bedi, principal of the school, presented the annual report. Students of the school presented colourful cultural items to mark the annual day celebrations. Later, prizes were distributed among meritorious students by the dignitaries.

Students attend Interactive session

An inter-disciplinary interactive session was organised in Government Post Graduate College, Rajouri, by the Department of Geology in collaboration with the Department of Geography. Around 100 students of both the departments attended the session, which was mainly aimed at the identification of local rocks, minerals, structural features and the fossil record preserved in the Himalayas. The welcome address was delivered by Dr Masood Ahmed followed by a keynote address by Dr Arjun Singh Rathore, Head Department of Geology.
