5-DAY WORKSHOP FOR RESEARCH SCHOLARS

The department of English, University of Jammu, organised a five-day workshop on the theme “Recent Trends in Research Methodology” for research scholars. The event concluded today. Prof Keshav Sharma, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu, was the chief guest. Prof Shoaib Inayat Malik, head, department of Urdu and Dean Faculty of Arts addressed the audience. Prof Rita Saldhana, former senior professor of the department, presided over the Valedictory function. Scholars and students of the department participated enthusiastically in the event.

KIDZEE CELEBRATES ANNUAL DAY

Kidzee playway school, Rani Bagh, celebrated its annual day and graduation ceremony at Abhinav theatre with great zeal. The theme for the event was “How’s The Josh”. Former Deputy CM Kavinder Gupta was the chief guest. Suminder Singh, managing director, IDPS; Manmita Raina, principal, DBN school, and Sampuran Singh, ex-Air Force officer, were the guest of honour. Ajay Mengi and Rimmi Khosla, directors of school, presented a vote of thanks.

ARMY ORGANISES POETRY COMPETITION

Army organised a “Poetry Competition” on the theme of patriotism and beauty of Jammu and Kashmir at Government High School, Kotli, in Rajouri district. In all, 16 students participated in the event and presented poetry in Urdu, Hindi and English. A large number of people, including students, prominent personalities, parents and teachers witnessed the event. Winners and runners-up were rewarded.

NATIONAL WORKSHOP HELD AT SMVDU

A two-day national workshop on “Development and Prospects of Thermoelectric Energy Conversion Device and its Applications” was inaugurated at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra. It was jointly organised by School of Mechanical Engineering & Energy Management and SMVDU. TEQIP –III & DST-Science Engineering and Research Board, SMVDU, in collaboration with JNTU Hyderabad and National Institute of Solar Energy, New Delhi, sponsored the event. Prof Ramesh Chandra Mallik, a thermoelectric expert from IISc, Bengaluru, delivered a keynote address. Dr Manoj Singh Gaur, director, IIT, Jammu, was the chief guest. Prof RK Sinha, Vice-Chancellor, SMVDU, encouraged faculties to organise an event on emerging technologies.

TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR IFS OFFICIALS

The School of Business at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University organised a national training programme on ‘Rational Decision Making: Strategies and Techniques’ for Indian Forest Service Officials. Dr Jyoti Sharma, programme coordinator, briefed about the objective of the programme. Dr Saurabh, head, School of Business, said sustainable organisations were run on rational decisions. Prof VK Bhat, registrar, SMVD University, emphasised preservation and conservation of forests for human sustenance. Officials from 19 different parts of the country, including Karnataka, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Orissa, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Assam and Maharashtra participated in the programme.

PAINTING COMPETITION

Commissioner Secretary of the Forests, Ecology and Environment Department, Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, concluded the two-day visit to Jhajjar Kotli Panchayat, Block Dansal, under Back to Village-2 programme today. He was accompanied by State Mission Director, ICDS, Shabnam Kamili; ADC, Jammu, Tahir Firdous; DFO, Jammu, Alok Maurya and senior officials from various departments.Visiting official also distributed prizes among the winners at a painting competition organised at Govt Higher Secondary School, Jajjar Kotli, and held an interactive session with students.

JU HOLDS A TRIP TO OLD-AGE HOME

As part of its outreach activities, the department of home science, University of Jammu, organised an interactive session of students in first semester of PG department with residents of old-age home at Ambphalla, Jammu. Head of the department, Prof Dr Shashi Manhas, said the students got a chance to learn about the past practices in family relationships, reasons of deterioration in family and social values and ways to tackle such problems in the society. They interacted with the elderly and presented small programmes in hopes of bringing some joyous moments in their lives.
