Efforts on to create inclusive, equitable society in J-K: Manoj Sinha
Jammu, February 21
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday said his administration is working to ensure an inclusive and equitable society so that all enjoy the benefits of national development.
The Lieutenant Governor was interacting with a 20-member delegation of the Padari tribe, who called on him at the Raj Bhawan here this morning, an official spokesman said.
In a statement, the L-G said: “Met a delegation of Padari Tribe community. They expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inclusion of the community in the list of Scheduled Tribes. The administration is committed to inclusive development of every section of society with mantra of Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas.”
“Our effort is to create an inclusive and equitable society, empower the marginalised and ensure they enjoy the benefits of national development,” the L-G stated.
The delegation, led by BJP leader and former minister Sunil Sharma, expressed gratitude to the Central government and J&K administration for ST status to the Padari tribe.
The members of the delegation said the historic decision has paved way for the socio-economic empowerment of the community and it will create an enabling environment for the tribe to contribute to the development of J&K and the country.
Both the Houses of the Parliament recently cleared the addition of four more communities including Pahari ethnic community, Gadda Brahmin, Koli and Padari tribe to the list of STs in the UT.
On February 12, a separate Pahari community and Other Backward Class (OBC) delegations met the lieutenant governor at the Raj Bhawan and expressed their gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for empowering them.
The L-G during his recent Awaam ki Awaaz programme had said, “The historic decision of the inclusion of Paharis, Padari Tribes, Koli and Gadda Brahmin in list of STs, while safeguarding the interest of Gujjar, Bakarwals and other listed tribes is a testimony to our commitment towards the empowerment of all.”
