Jailed Lok Sabha MP Engineer Rashid’s Awami Ittehad Party on Tuesday said it has filed an appeal before the Delhi High Court for custody parole of the jailed MP to attend the ongoing Parliament session.

The party on Tuesday expressed strong disappointment over the NIA court’s decision to reject custody parole for AIP president and Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid to attend the ongoing session of Parliament.

AIP chief spokesperson Inam Un Nabi stated, “It is deeply concerning that despite being an elected representative of the people, Engineer Rashid is being denied his fundamental right to represent his constituency in Parliament. The rejection of custody parole by the NIA court is yet another example of the unjust treatment meted out to him.”

He further added that AIP remains steadfast in its legal and political battle for Engineer Rashid’s rights. “We have now moved an appeal before the Division Bench of the Delhi High Court, which will hear the matter tomorrow. We hope justice prevails and Er Rashid will be allowed to fulfill his constitutional duty.”

The statement said, “AIP urges all democratic voices to stand in support of the jailed MP, emphasising that preventing an elected representative from attending Parliament goes against the principles of democracy and justice.”

A Delhi court on Monday denied custody parole to Rashid, to attend the Parliament session. The court is all set to pronounce an order on his regular bail on March 19.
