A Valley-based entrepreneur has come up with a novel way of taking honey to all sections of society and making it affordable to all. Though Kashmiri honey is usually expensive, entrepreneur Mir Iqbal has introduced ‘Maachh’ – locally produced honey in sachets, which are available from the starting price of Rs 10 in the market.

“Kashmiri honey is expensive and is of good quality. It is sold at Rs 800 per kg. Not everyone can afford to buy honey as it is only available in bottles in Kashmir. Therefore, I came up with the idea of introducing Kashmiri honey in sachets of 8-10 gm at the starting price of Rs 10. We also sell it in 100 gm sachets,” Iqbal told The Tribune.

He said he had received a good response from the markets as the sachets would also come in handy for those who did not take sugar.

“I launched the product this month. So far, the response has been good. Even restaurant owners are giving a good response. I got this idea when I saw a good number of people avoiding sweets and having tea without sugar. The honey sachets can replace sugar used in hotels, restaurants, cafes and offices,” said Iqbal.

He said he had plans to introduce ‘Maachh’ in different flavours. “I have a product called ‘saffron-blended honey’ which can be taken in the morning to remain active throughout the day. I am also planning to introduce honey in other flavours such as lemon, garlic and ginger for health-conscious people,” he said.

“The ‘Maachh’ sachet is also a replacement for morning butter on your bread. Roadside chaiwallas usually sell local bread with butter and tea. Now, they can sell honey sachets with hot bread early in the morning that will have dozens of health benefits,” Iqbal said.
