Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu has directed the administration to examine whether J&K will come under the purview of the Central Information Commission (CIC) or a separate commission has to be constituted for it.

In this regard, the government has accorded sanction to the constitution of a high-level committee to examine all issues relating to the Right to Information (RTI) Act.

The high-level panel, to be headed by the Administrative Secretary, General Administration Department (GAD), will also spell out the actions required to be taken like re-designation of the public information officers and other functionaries under the RTI Act in case the UT of Jammu and Kashmir comes under the CIC.

The Administrative Secretary, Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs; representative of the Finance Department not below the rank of the Additional Secretary; Additional Secretary, GAD (Administration), would be the members of the panel. It would submit the report by December 26.
