Family alleges medical negligence after woman’s death at Rajouri hospital
A protest demonstration was held in the Thanamandi area of Rajouri district after the tragic death of a woman, allegedly due to medical negligence, at a local hospital on Sunday evening.
The incident occurred when 70-year-old Farzand Begum, a resident of Darra village in Rajouri, experienced severe chest pain and was rushed to the Community Health Centre in Thanamandi. Despite receiving initial treatment, she passed away within half an hour, leading to outrage among her family members, who immediately began protesting.
The family accused the hospital staff of negligence, claiming that while the attending doctor had prescribed an ECG, no staff member was available to conduct the test. According to the family, it was only after an hour that a staff member arrived, by which time the woman had already passed. In response, they placed her body in front of the hospital and demanded strict action against those responsible for the death.
In an interesting turn of events, Dr Raj Kumar Thapa, the Additional District Development Commissioner of Rajouri, had visited Thanamandi on Sunday morning to inspect the healthcare facilities in the area. During his visit to the Sub District Hospital (SDH), he assessed the available infrastructure, manpower and services, emphasising the importance of maintaining cleanliness and hygiene within and around the hospital premises.
