The department of environmental sciences, University of Jammu (JU), celebrated its first alumni meet at Brigadier Rajinder Singh Auditorium on Tuesday. The programme started with lighting the lamp followed by the inaugural address presented by Prof Raj Kumar Rampal, head of the department, followed by introductory remarks from Dr Rakesh Kumar Atri, coordinator of the event. Senior faculty members — Prof SPS Dutta and Prof Anil Kumar Raina — addressed the gathering. They acknowledged and appreciated the contributions of alumni in bringing laurels to the department and also called upon their involvement in expanding the department’s current outreach goals, programmes and activities.
National conference at SMVDU
A national conference on “Contemporary trends in humanities and social sciences” was inaugurated at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU). The conference was organised by the school of languages and literature to promote the use of Social sciences and humanities; language policy and English literature, Interaction between literary, linguistic and social science theories; stylistics and English language teaching. Prof RK Sinha, SMVDU Vice-Chancellor, addressed the participants and congratulated Dr Amitabh Vikram Dwivedi, coordinator, Dr Isha Malhotra and Dr Anurag Kumar, conveners of the conference for organising the event. The articipants from across the country were attending the conference. The keynote was delivered by Prof Rajneesh Arora, director, English and Foreign Language University, Lucknow Campus.
