The first-ever Balti Culture Day was organised jointly by the Balti Association of India and the Himalayan Cultural Heritage Foundation marking a historic occasion for preservation of Balti culture, language, and heritage.
The event aimed to bring together scholars, historians, poets and students to discuss and commemorate the cultural heritage of the Balti community.
The programme took place in two sessions, featuring a series of thought-provoking research paper presentations and a vibrant multilingual ‘mushaira’. Historians Mohaammad Sadiq Hardassi, Mehdi Tyakshi and Tsewang Dorjey Dongbos presented papers on various aspects, including the historical relationship between Ladakh and Baltistan, Balti literature, and the cultural connections between Balti and Ladakhi communities.
The guest of honour, Executive Councillor, LAHDC Leh, Ghulam Mahdi, stressed on preserving Balti culture, language and legacy.
He also presented a scarf to Sonam Wangchok, founder of Himalayan Cultural Heritage Foundation. Wangchuk has been working on ways to bring different communities of the region together.
