Five injured in landslide at Kishtwar’s hydroelectric project
Five persons were injured when a landslide struck the vital Rattle hydroelectric project in Kishtwar on early Thursday morning.
Out of the total five injured persons, three were shifted to the Government Medical College (GMC), Doda, for specialised treatment, while two received medical care at the SDH, Thathri.
An official informed that the landslide occurred at the Drabshalla project site during the morning hours, leaving five persons injured and trapped under debris.
“On the directions of Kishtwar Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Sharma, swift rescue operations were carried out jointly by the civil administration, the police, the project authorities, and the Red Cross team, leading to successful rescue of all five individuals. The district administration is closely monitoring the situation and ensuring that the injured are provided all necessary medical assistance,” the official said.
In another incident, the Ramban police rescued 50 tourists from West Bengal, who were stranded due to flash floods and landslides, which disrupted the road connectivity in the region late on Wednesday.
“Demonstrating exemplary dedication, the rescue team safely evacuated all 50 tourists from the vulnerable site and relocated them to a safer place in Batote. Adequate arrangements, including food, water, shelter and other essential facilities have been made to ensure their comfort and safety,” a police official said.
Besides, the police evacuated many families to safety after heavy rains at Dhalwas, Chanderkote and Ramban after a distress call was received at the Chanderkote police station regarding damage to a few residential houses in these areas.
