The encounter broke out in Shopian district after security forces launched a joint operation in Rebon area on Sunday morning.

The gunfight started when joint teams of the police, Army and CRPF were carrying out a cordon-and-search operation in the south Kashmir village of Rebon, following an input about the presence of militants in the area.

The identity and group affiliation of the slain militants is being ascertained.
