Fourth edition of ice hockey tourney begins in Kargil
The fourth edition of L-G Cup Ice Hockey Championship was inaugurated at Kargil in Ladakh, according to officials.
An official spokesperson said the event is being held at Khree Sultan Choo Sports Stadium, Biamathang, Kargil, and Executive Councillor, Revenue, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Kacho Mohd Feroz inaugurated it.
Officials said the championship would conclude on January 20. The first match was played between LSRC Army Team and Royal Chiktan in the presence of hundreds of ice hockey enthusiasts.
“These games, with teams from both Leh and Kargil participating, not only promote sportsmanship and physical health but also serve as an important platform for cultural exchange,” said Executive Councillor Feroz.
He assured that the LAHDC Kargil would provide all possible support for the promotion of ice hockey, a source of tourism promotion.
The Executive Councillor has directed the department concerned to provide all possible facilities to the visiting team from Leh.
In his address, the Joint Director, Youth Services and Sports, said that the championship features four boys’ teams from both Leh and Kargil as well as two girls’ teams from the two districts.
He said that the administration is developing ice hockey rinks at various locations in Kargil district for the promotion of the sport.
