Jammu, December 31

President of Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Party (Nationalist) Ghulam Hassan Mir has welcomed the release of five political leaders from prison, saying that this should herald a new beginning in the political spectrum in Kashmir and open vistas for the release of all other political leaders.

In a statement here on Tuesday, Mir said, “The strength of a vibrant democracy allows broadcast of all viewpoints. Though it is a belated step, but it should be seen as a beginning to restore the political activity in J&K.”

“I do hope that the government will set free all other detained political leaders. I expect Home Minister Amit Shah and Lt-Governor Girish Chandra Murmu to take a call on this as early as possible,” Mir said.

Ghulam Hassan Mir also demanded that the recently advertised posts in J&K for the rest of the country should be rolled back, as the youth of J&K was already left wanting because of the limited employment opportunities and if these were limited further, that would have a serious consequences on the psyche of the youth, who were fast losing hope in the absence of work. Their state of hopeless should not be converted into paralysing helplessness.

The government, he said, should arrest this trend by keeping jobs in J&K for the youth of J&K only. He said he was sure that the government would take appropriate steps to keep the hope of the youth alive.
