Glacial flood mock drill at Zanskar

A comprehensive mock drill regarding the Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) was successfully conducted at Zanskar in Ladakh region on Thursday.
According to an official statement, the exercise was organised to evaluate the readiness and coordination of various departments and agencies to potential GLOF disasters in the region.
The exercise, which began at 9 am, was held at Ubarak village of Padum, Zanskar, where villagers presumed simulated GLOF incident in Zanskar. Acting swiftly, the tehsildar alerted all departments concerned, including the police, Incident Response Team, Health Department, and roads and buildings department,” the statement read.
As part of simulated exercise the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) promptly informed the district magistrate, requesting the activation of the DDMA and the UTDRF. Personnel from the police, UTDRF, Army, and BRO responded quickly, arriving at the site to initiate rescue operations.
“The Revenue Department, ICDS, Food and Supplies, PWD, Sheep Husbandry, Animal Husbandry and other departments took active part in the exercise,” the official statement added.
