Government employee held for firing at BJP leader
The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday arrested a government employee in connection with a shooting incident that occurred over a parking dispute in Jammu. The police said that a confrontation between a BJP youth leader and a Power Development Department (PDD) employee escalated to gunfire on Friday evening in the New Plot area, near the PDD line man room.
During the argument, Ravinder Singh allegedly drew his licensed pistol and fired two rounds at Kanav Sharma. Following the shooting, Sharma was quickly transported to Sarwal Hospital for initial treatment, and later transferred to Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu for further medical care.
Singh, after firing the shots, fled the scene, prompting immediate action by the Jammu police. Upon receiving information about the shootout, the police deployed forensic science laboratory (FSL) teams to the site to secure evidence.
Within hours, the police managed to locate and arrest Ravinder Singh, recovering the weapon used in the crime.
A case has been registered at Bakshi Nagar police station under section 109 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and an investigation is ongoing.
