Being often called as underperformers by many, the students in government schools in different districts of Jammu division have proved their critics wrong by surpassing their counterparts from private schools in participation in the recently held online quiz competition.
In the quiz competition, organised, by Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) through the online medium under Project DSEJ Home Classes, as many as 10,196 entries were received from students comprising government and private schools.
Of 10,196 participants, 6080 students were from government schools while 4120 from private schools. The total strength of male students was 5,233 and girls was 4,967.
The competition was organised between two groups-Group-I (6th to 8th class) and Group-II (9th to 12th class).
“My friends studying in private schools were of the view that government school students are not that intelligent but that thinking has been changed now after I have excelled in the quiz competition”, said Aditi Sharma, a class 8th student of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) Chanderkote in Ramban district.
“Not just participation, the students of government schools have secured positions which will definitely boost the morale of heads of these institutions too”, Santosh Chib, warden, KGBV Chanderkote said.
“As compared to plain districts the connectivity of 2G internet was not that good but still the students were determined to register for the online competition to challenge the age-old thinking of people that government schools students lagged in every sphere be it academics or extracurricular activities”, another student from a government school in Jammu district told.
Separate results for both government and private schools were declared by the directorate wherein top 10 students were decided on the basis of the highest marks and time of submission in the quiz competition.
All meritorious candidates will get appreciation letter from DSEJ and distribution of awards occur when schools will reopen after ongoing coronavirus induced lockdown.
