Srinagar, April 20

For smooth conduct of the annual pilgrimage to the holy Amarnath cave shrine, the authorities have decided to introduce GPS-enabled wristbands for pilgrims as part of the renewed security measure. Officials say 300 additional companies of paramilitary forces would be deployed for the peaceful conduct of the 43-day pilgrimage from June 30.

Most of the force will come from the CRPF, followed by the BSF, the ITBP, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and the CISF.

“The vehicles carrying pilgrims will be fitted with RIFD chips so that their movement is monitored from control rooms,” officials said. —
