Srinagar, September 29

The J&K Police have booked a bridegroom for using firecrackers in the Batamalo area of Srinagar during his marriage ceremony last night.

A statement said the bursting of firecrackers was prohibited within the territorial jurisdiction of Srinagar district and an order in this regard stood promulgated by the Deputy Commissioner.

A police spokesman said last night the sound of firecrackers was heard in Batmaloo.

“On inquiry it was found that firecrackers were being used during the marriage ceremony of Bilal Ahmad Shah of Reck Chowk, Batmaloo, by his family and friends. In this regard a case under Section 188 of the IPC stands registered in the matter,” he said.

Meanwhile, an imposter posing as a police officer was arrested in Srinagar.

A complaint was received by the Sherghari police station on September 27 from Sohail Ahmed Pinchoo of Noorbagh, Srinagar, stating that he received threatening phone calls by a man identifying himself as as a DSP, Cargo.

A case was registered.

“During the course of investigation, officers were able to identify the accused as Nazir Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Botakadal, Lal Bazar, Srinagar. He has been arrested,” the police spokesman said.

The accused had deliberately registered his name as DSP, CM Residence, in the Truecaller app with the intention to cheat public, he added.
