Jammu, March 5

Panic gripped area near International Border (IB) in Kathua when a suspicious polythene bag was found which turned out to be carrying gun powder.

Hiranagar police station received information from the Border Police Post (BPP) Sherpur regarding a suspicious polythene packet found in Panj Grain Muthi Charu village.

Upon receiving the information, the Special Operations Group (SOG) team arrived at the location. Additionally, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Border alongwith SHO Hiranagar also reached the spot.

Upon inspection, it was determined that the polythene packet contained gun powder commonly used by farmers to protect their crops from wild animals. The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), Kathua team, was called to verify the contents, and they confirmed that it is for agricultural use. The gun powder was then safely disposed of at the location.

“Local residents further confirmed the authenticity of the substance, stating it is regularly used by farmers for crop protection against wildlife,” a police official informed. Kathua police refuted the possibility of infiltration or the dropping of high density explosives across the border whereas further investigation is under process.
