Hand over temple administration to Hindus: Shiv Sena (UBT)
Jammu, August 25
Shiv Sena (UBT) J&K unit has demanded immediate repeal of Hindu Endowments Act-1951, giving first right to Hindus for admission in colleges and universities run by Hindu temples and spending the donation amount on the welfare of Hindus.
In a press conference held in Jammu, party’s UT chief Manish Sahni said it was ironic that in a country with 80 per cent Hindu population, the government has maintained its complete control over more than 4 lakh Hindu temples.
“On the contrary, religious places of other communities have been given complete exemption” he said. Sahni said that in the Constitution of the country, under Article 26, it is clearly stated that the government will not have any interference in any religious place.
“With this law, Hindus got their temples back; but in 1951, a law was made under the Hindu Charity Act and the state governments were given the full right to control the temples,” he claimed.
Sahni said there are lakhs of Hindu temples in the whole country, which are under government control. “It is not clear where the money goes that Hindus offer in these temple,” he said.
