  • “The court, while considering the matter, was inclined to extend the scope of the directions to the Jammu region also which is witnessing the traffic chaos equally, however, the same was deferred at the request of BA Dar, senior Additional Advocate General,” the HC said in its orders.

On December 18, 2019, the High Court had asked the government to come up with a policy to ban the use of roads, be it the national highway, state Highway and city roads, for parking.

“Sixteen (16) roadside parking slots have been identified by the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, to be allowed for use of parking vehicles. We do not feel to modify the order to the extent of all 16 identified roadside parking, but on consideration, we allow the roadside parking at seven places,” a division bench of Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey and Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur said in its orders made available on Tuesday. They asked the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, and the District Magistrate, Srinagar, to file their compliance in this behalf by the next date.

The spots where the roadside parking has been allowed by the High court include the stretch from Linz Restaurant to the CID Headquarters, from Linz Restaurant to the office of the SSP, Traffic, between chinars and in front of the Sher-i-Kashmir Park, from Tao Restaurant to General Post Offic, Press Enclave parking, single-lane opposite Pratap Park, single-lane parking near the Deputy Commissioner’s office and Dharam Trust Office to the BSNL office, KothiBagh.
