A health department team headed by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) has sealed an ultrasound clinic at Kotranka after complaints that it was carrying out sex determination tests and was allegedly being handled by a doctor who was not fully qualified to do ultrasounds.

“The ultrasound clinic namely M/S BN Ultrasound has been sealed in the presence of the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Kotranka) and Block Medical Officer Dr Iqbal Malik for violation of rule 3(1) (b) of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act, 1994 (insufficient qualification of the doctor),” said Rajouri CMO Sanjeev Puri.

Sources said the owner of the sealed clinic was one Ghulam Mustaffa, whose wife Dr R Jabeen was posted at Community Health Centre in Kotranka.

Senior health officials have reportedly received several complaints about sex determination tests being done at the clinic.

The health department had issued several show-cause notices to the owner in the past but without any response as the owner is a religious leader of the area.

Moreover, Dr Jabeen has received only three months of training in ultrasound, while a doctor needs six months of training to be fully qualified for conducting an ultrasound.
