A day after a robbery at a jewellery showroom in Jammu’s Greater Kailash area, locals and political parties have raised serious concerns about the deteriorating law and order situation in the city. In the heist, two bike-borne robbers held the owner hostage and fled with 1.5 kg of gold.

The incident occurred around 1:30 pm on Saturday when the robbers entered the jewellery shop and stole 1500 grams of gold at knife-point.

Manish Sahni, president of the Shiv Sena (UBT) J&K unit, expressed alarm over the rise in crime in the region. “After a recent attack on a gangster who was killed in broad daylight, the robbery at the gold showroom raises a serious question mark on the law and order situation,” Sahni said.

Sahni also expressed concerns about the declining reputation of the police. “This robbery, which took place near the National Highway NH and involved sharp weapons, is the third crime incident in this area within the last ten days. Locals are also panicked due to rising robberies on the newly constructed ring road and avoid it during the evening,” he added.

He further stated that hooliganism and gang wars were increasing in Jammu, which he believes reflects poorly on the police administration. Sahni stated that Jammu, the city of temples, has become a stronghold of crimes like murder, gang wars, drug addiction and robberies.

Locals in Jammu have also voiced their concerns over the rising crime rate. Ravinder Singh, a businessman from Bakshi Nagar, said the government has failed to curb the growing crime despite promises. “Jammu, which was once a safe city, has become unsafe with multiple incidents of firing, robberies, thefts, and hooliganism,” he stated.
