High-altitude national sports centre to be set up in Leh
Ladakh Autonomous Hill development Council (LAHDC), Leh, chairman Tashi Gyalson chaired a meeting on establishment of High Altitude National Centre for Excellence (HANCE) in Leh.
The meeting was attended by Leh DC Santosh Sukhadeve; Executive Director, Sports Authority of India, Chandigarh Centre, Manjushree Dayanand; Councillor Lobzang Sherab among others. The meeting was attended online by Joint Director, Youth Services and Sports, Tahir Hussain Zubdavi.
During the session, Dayanand presented a comprehensive overview of the proposed HANCE in Leh. Discussions revolved around the roles and responsibilities, as well as the financial commitments, of both SAI and the LAHDC, Leh, in this ambitious project.
The meeting also addressed crucial aspects such as the manpower requirements for the centre, the current status and utilisation of funds allocated for the Khelo India State Centre of Excellence (KISCE) and Khelo India Centres (KICs), and the methodology for selecting athletes for the HANCE. Furthermore, deliberations were held on strategies for skill development of national-level athletes from the region, with the aim of training them as future coaches. The sanctioned strength, with a focus on gender balance, for the HANCE in Leh was also a key point of discussion, alongside potential challenges.
Tashi Gyalson lauded the proactive efforts of the SAI in bringing this prestigious project to Leh. Expressing his strong support, he agreed to the signing of a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalise the establishment of the High Altitude National Centre for Excellence. He further directed the concerned officers to take all necessary steps to ensure the successful implementation of this significant initiative.
“The establishment of the HANCE is expected to provide a major boost to sports training and development in the high-altitude region of Ladakh, offering state-of-the-art facilities and expert coaching for aspiring athletes,” Gyalson said.
