The four-laning work of the 30-km Jammu-Akhnoor highway, which had to be stopped midway due to the lockdown, started with limited resources and manpower on April 27.

The ambitious project, which is to be completed in 2021, is likely to miss the deadline as the authorities working on it are faced with many hurdles now.

“The project was stopped on March 22. We reopened the construction process on April 27, but are faced with many problems. The labour working here has to maintain social distancing, besides managing the construction work with less resources,” said Sujaan Singh Rana, project engineer.

The Rs 917-crore project, declared as National Highway-144A, is being executed by National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL). —TNS
