A meeting of the District Level Committee of Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) was convened today in Reasi under the Chairmanship of District Magistrate Vishesh Mahajan.

The meeting reviewed the steps taken to counter the menace of drug abuse in Reasi district. The district magistrate thoroughly assessed the progress achieved in the past months towards eradication of drug abuse and its trafficking. Calling for heightened vigil around educational institutions, he directed the enforcement agencies to restrict street hawkers to operate near schools and colleges. He further emphasised the need to conduct a census of beggars, ensuring that none are allowed to enter or wander in and around Katra or any other town of the district.

He called upon the stakeholders to mobilize Asha workers and Anganwadi workers to actively engage with people and spread mass awareness about the perils of drugs.

Furthermore, Mahajan stressed the importance of continuous monitoring by the police and Revenue department and other concerned agencies to prevent illicit cultivation of poppy or cannabis crops in the district.
