Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Tuesday said he was hopeful that the Supreme Court would soon restore statehood to the Union territory.

He said restoring statehood was not a favour to the National Conference (NC) government but to every person of the Union Territory.

He said Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha should understand the reality on ground as he had been in the office for the past five to six years. “There are also irregularities in the Mining Department. People ask why no action is being taken when the roads and bridges have been washed away in the floods. However, the L-G gets angry when we talk about these issues,” said Choudhary.

He claimed that when he raised the issues of daily wagers, his security cover was reduced.
