House collapses amid heavy rain in Jammu

A single-storey house in the Bathindi area of Jammu city collapsed due to heavy rain in the region. The structure was located close to a nullah which overflowed causing damage to the house.
The incident took place at Abu Bakr Colony in Bathindi. Owner of the house had rented the house to a group of migrant workers who were not present at the time of incident.
Locals informed that the house collapsed following rainfall which triggered the nullah to overflow and damage the house. No injuries were reported due to the house collapse.
Meanwhile, the body of a man was found in Tawi by the police on Thursday afternoon. As the body was not identified, sources informed that the man might have drowned in the river.
On the other hand Meteorological Centre at Srinagar have issued an alert of flash floods and mudslides in Jammu.
“Intense showers for brief period with possibility of flash floods/cloud bursts/landslides/mudslides and shooting stones over vulnerable places of J&K and heavy rainfall at few places of Jammu division,” the Centre stated.
The weatherman has informed that there is likelihood of spells of rainfall and thunderstorm from August 1-5 at many places in J&K.
According to IMD data, the rainfall deficit in Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir ranged from 35 per cent to 45 per cent.
