The passing away of Bollywood star Rishi Kapoor has rekindled memories of his Kashmir connection as most of his early films were shot in the Valley. From the famous ‘Bobby Hut’ in Gulmarg to the association of the entire Kapoor family with Kashmir, people have lots of fond memories of the actor, who passed away on Thursday in Mumbai.
“The hut in which the famous song ‘Hum tum ek kamray main…’ of Rishi Kapoor’s debut film ‘Bobby’ was shot became famous as the Bobby Hut. His fans would stay at this hut later. They would also stay at another hut in Pahalgam where Raj Kapoor would stay. The entire Kapoor family had a long association with Kashmir and most of their films were shot here,” film-maker Mushtaaque Ali Khan told The Tribune.

Khan said Kapoor had promised to visit Kashmir this year to inaugurate the Kashmir World Film Festival (KWFF). “I had personally spoken to Rishi Kapoor last year and he had promised to visit Kashmir with his entire family. I had also met Ranbir Kapoor as we were planning to have special screenings of his films in the KWFF,” said Khan.
Meanwhile, social media was splashed with the past pictures of Kapoor. The Highlands Park Gulmarg shared a picture of Kapoor outside the Bobby Hut and tweeted: “Rest in Peace Rishi Kapoor, saddened by the passing away of a wonderful person, Icon, and a real superstar. Gulmarg will always remember you.”
Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah too remembered the hut. “From Bobby to Karz to Zamane Ko Dikhana Hai, your movies & some of the dialogues have been such an integral part of my childhood. You made a little hut in Gulmarg an iconic place with one song….. For decades now people have wanted to see the hut he & Dimple made famous with that memorable song “Hum tum……..” tweeted Abdullah.
