In response to reports of terrorist movement in the higher reaches of Kathua along the International Border (IB) with Pakistan, senior police officials conducted a thorough review of security measures in the district. Jammu Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bhim Sen Tuti, visited the Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) in Kathua to assess the security situation. He was accompanied by DIG Jammu-Samba-Kathua range Shiv Kumar Sharma, Kathua SSP Shobhit Saxena, SSP Special Operations & Trainings Vikrant Prasher and other senior officials.
During his visit, IGP Tuti also reviewed the preparedness of the Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K Police, which has become instrumental in combating terrorism in the region. The officials inspected traditional infiltration routes including Ujh, Basantar, Saharkhad, Tarnah and Bein Nallah, which have been identified as potential entry points for terrorists. These routes have seen reports of infiltration attempts in the past.
The visit came three days after two men were found murdered in a field in Billawar by unidentified assailants. Locals have raised suspicions that this could be the work of terrorists, prompting increased security in the area. The police are investigating the case, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) is expected to be formed soon to probe the incident.
Throughout the visit, IGP Tuti assessed the existing security arrangements, operational readiness, and coordination between the police, Army and paramilitary forces. He interacted with officers and personnel deployed at strategic locations, discussing operational challenges and recognising their commitment to maintaining security in the region.
Tuti also inspected the border management grid at Border Police Post (BPP) Sherpur, Babber Nallah, Mawa, Pangdour and Nandpur. A security review and coordination meeting was held in Billawar at the local police station with Army, CRPF and SOG representatives.
Tuti assumed his position as IGP of Jammu at a time when intelligence reports indicate that terrorists may attempt to disrupt peace in the region.
