In view of the situation emerging due to the coronavirus, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Jammu, on Thursday extended the suspension of all classes and examinations with immediate effect till March 31. A few days ago, it had suspended the classes till March 21.
The University of Jammu (JU) has also been closed for administrative and academic activities. All examinations have been postponed and the entry of the outside visitors has also been banned. Sources said the extension by the IIT-Jammu was on the cards as all educational institutes in J&K had already been closed down by the authorities till March 31.
“Those students who wish to stay in the hostels will be allowed to stay. The basic mess facilities shall continue to be available. They should follow all instructions for hygiene and take all necessary precautions by following the advisories issued by various quarters (Central government and the WHO) from time to time to avoid unnecessary contact with each other. The students who have not yet returned from the mid-term break are advised to stay put,” read an IIT-Jammu advisory to the parents as well as students.
“We will be regularly reviewing the situation closely on a daily basis and shall keep you posted via our different channels. You should not worry at all. In case of any queries, please feel free to contact our helpline number 0191-2570286 or send an email at swoffice@iitjammu.ac.in,” the advisory said.
Meanwhile, the JU administration has also issued an advisory. “The visitors’ entry to the JU has been restricted except for the urgent issues. The meetings involving a large number of people be rescheduled or minimised. All students enrolled in the undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the University of Jammu whose private, regular, professional or non-professional examinations were to be held from March 20 stand postponed till March 31,” said a university notification.
It said all administrative and academic activities across all campuses of the university would remain suspended up to March 28.
In view of the closure of the financial year 2019-20, the employees associated with the accounts and finance wing have been told to continue to report to their duties.
However, the Jammu University Teachers Association, during a meeting on Thursday with its office-bearers, appealed to the Vice-Chancellor to either completely close the teaching departments or make the presence of faculty members in their respective departments optional till March 31.
